ISLAMABAD: Embassies and high commissions are monitoring the political situation, especially the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest against PM Nawaz Sharif for his failure to present himself for accountability.
Talking to Daily Times, various foreign diplomats said they are monitoring the political situation after Kaptaan’s announcement to lockdown Islamabad against corruption. They are sending communiqué to their respective countries, they added. Almost all the embassies and foreign missions will remain open on Monday. They told their staff to reach offices if they would not face any difficulty.
United States spokesperson in Pakistan Fleur Cowan said the embassy would be opened on Monday. “We are watching the political situation and if we decide to close on November 2 there will be an announcement sent out to media,” she said.
To a question about the security of Diplomatic Enclave, the diplomats had expressed concerns.
On the other hand, Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria said during his weekly media briefing that the FO was not aware that any request has been received particularly but the diplomatic community in Islamabad is quite comfortable with the arrangements in place.
“We have provided all protection within the means and resources available by the government of Pakistan,” he added.
Diplomatic Enclave Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mirvais Niaz was not available for comment.
