Commissioner hints crackdown against quacks

Published on: May 5, 2019 1:40 AM

Larkana Division Commissioner, Muhammad Saleem Raza Khuhro, while addressing press conference here on Saturday has said that in his view clinics of quacks are between 4,000 to 5,000 in Larkana and soon a massive crackdown will be carried out against them, illegal blood banks and laboratories not only in Larkana but in the entire province. He said District Health Officer (DHO), Larkana, has told him that there are only 270 quack clinics here and through other sources he has come to know that there are over 1,100 clinics.

Clinics of quacks are between 4,000 to 5,000 in Larkana; 128 HIV positive cases have surfaced

The commissioner said cases will also be registered against those owners who have given their shops on rent to these quacks or laboratory owners. He said 102 children have been detected HIV positive out of 128 positive cases whose ages are between one month to two years which is very alarming and indicated that spread of the virus could be result of quacks’ treatment. He said wastage disposal is unavailable at private clinics.

He said complaints have been received that disposable syringes are sold again after washing and new packing because blood and hairs have been found among them. Commissioner Khuhro further said that the challenge before them is to save those people who have not been infected by this deadly virus and to provide treatment facilities to the affected people. He said action will also be taken against those doctors who have sublet their degrees and allowed quacks to use their name. He was accompanied by DC Larkana Muhammad Siddique Noman. He said Dr. Muzaffar Ghangro was got arrested by Sindh Health Care Commission, inquiry is underway, its findings will be implemented and it will also be made public.
