Landi Kotal says no to polythene bags

Published on: April 28, 2019 12:39 AM

With an aim to impart knowledge about the disastrous demerits of polythene bags, an awareness walk was carried out in the main bazaar of Landi Kotal on Saturday.

The event was marked by the presence of Landi Kotal Assistant Commissioner, Muhammad Imran; office bearers of Anjuman-e-Tejeraan Landi Kotal; local traders; tribal elders as well as members of civil society.

AC Imran spoke on the occasion and asserted that an anti-polythene shopping bags drive had been launched in the area on the strict directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister and other high-ups.

He called the awareness walk a part of the campaign to inform the general masses of the drawbacks of the shopping bags.

“The commodity not only a health hazard but also has polluted our environment,” he added while urging the shopkeepers to start utilising biodegradable shopping bags for a human-friendly environment.

He warned that those violating the ban imposed on polythene bags would be dealt with accordingly.

Earlier, Landi Kotal AC had raided on various shops in the bazaar; taking away polythene bags.
