Parliament Lodges Extension project delayed again

Published on: December 27, 2016 3:01 PM

ISLAMABAD: The Parliament Lodges extension project has been inordinately delayed, with the construction company accorded the project now asking for two more years.

The project was initially expected to be completed in two and a half years; however it has now been five years since that timeframe began.

According to media reports, the relevant construction company has sought two more years for the completion of project from the Capital Development Authority.

Under the plan for the project, 106 family suites for parliamentarians and 500 servant quarters were to be constructed. In addition the construction of a Jamia Mosque and a services block were also part of the project.

The private firm, while giving their version, said that the initial delay in handing over possession of the project area led to the inordinate delay in its completion. They further said that electricity transformers allocated for construction of servant quarters had not been relocated until now.

The project for expanding the parliament lodges was started during the tenure of former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani at an approximate cost of Rs 2. 7 billion.
