Milan Fashion Week — ‘who wears these clothes?’

Published on: September 26, 2018 1:07 AM

The season’s boldest and most vivid looks were detected on the runway in the recently held Milan Fashion Week. Milan is one of the ‘big four’ capitals where prominent fashion houses, along with recognised designers displayed awe-inspiring collections and highlight trends for Spring/Summer 2019. Buyers and the media are granted a chance to acknowledge the trends beforehand. Distinctive looks ranging from tailored notch collar jackets to ruffled dresses, vivacious spring colors, unconventional materials and experimental techniques were noticeable on the ramp. Giorgio Armani used plastic shells to cover the bodice of a few dresses while Moschino demonstrated unfinished garments with loose fabric swaying behind. Prada paired swimwear pieces with skirts and sheer stockings.

There is an artistic need to cater such ambiguous concerns and recognise that fashion is open to all and not for a specific societal group. Fashion is all about going big, taking chances and creating magic

Besfxxk had an entirely unusual line with pants that were half denim and half tracksuits. Fashion critics applauded these works however many people found the eccentric fashion style hard to absorb. Often, people who witness a fashion show ponder: “I don’t understand who wears such impractical clothes?” or “what was the designer thinking?” They fail to bride a link between the clothes demonstrated on the ramp with the real world and believe that the garments have been solely designed for entertainment and not for daily wear. It is often perceived that a certain upper-class can bear the elevated expenses of boasting such clothes while middling individuals disengage themselves from this precinct. When a designer showcases a line, the clothes are not generated in bulk. Selected pieces are modeled and each of them is prepared on a specific standard measurement. Those who find it apt as it is, purchase it on the spot. Others, interested in the design, add their suggestions and get a fresh piece tailored to their requirements. The dresses that seemed out of place were purely a presentation of cut lines, prints, and vogue a designer materialises, grounded on their inspiration.

Designers occasionally choose unconventional materials and ‘peculiar styles’ because of the desire to create an impact. Fashion is all about going big, taking chances and creating magic. Several reputable and flourishing designers formulate collections for novel designers to draw cut lines and textile references from. The bizarre, outrageous clothes to some, in reality are hints for the masses to shape their ideas. They are responsible for setting the upcoming season’s trends.

It should be realised that the products observed on the ramp are not just for auction to be bought by the highest bidder. Behind these creations is a struggle story of colossal amounts of time and work in crafting each article and willingness of the design team to recreate pieces to fit requirements of those that buy them.
