Anti-corruption registers cases against six suspects over fraud, corruption

GUJRANWALA: The anti-corruption authorities on Tuesday lodged cases against six suspected criminals for their alleged involvement in fraud, corruption and misuse of powers.

Reportedly, the anti-corruption director Fareed Ahmed informed that a citizen namely Jehanzeb, a resident of Gujranwala, filed an application accusing land revenue officer namely Shabbir of issuing a bogus property ownership certificate of his property to Mehmooda Khanum. The applicant alleged that he suffered a loss of Rs one million.

Meanwhile, another applicant Zafar Iqbal, a resident of Hafizabad, alleged that the accused namely Muhammad Bashir, Muhammad Iqbal, Anayat Khan in collaboration with stamp vendor Muhammad Ashraf prepared and submitted a bogus stamp paper in the court in favour of their writ petition against him.

During investigations, anti-corruption teams found sufficient evidence against the accused.

Consequently, cases were registered against all of them.

ROs filter candidates for contesting upcoming polls

Returning officers (ROs) on Tuesday rejected nomination forms of many candidates who submitted forms to contest elections in the upcoming general polls.

On the last day of scrutiny process, the independent candidates of constituency NA-82 namely Muzammal Iqbal Hashmi and Shahid Hameed failed to produce their nominees and guarantors before the court.

Meanwhile, PTI candidate Jamal Nasir Cheema from PS-53 and PML-N candidate Shazia Sohail Mir from NA-80 were rejected when their names were found on bank defaulters’ list.

Former MNA justice (Rtd) Iftikhar Ahmed Cheema was rejected after he failed to submit a reply of show cause notice issued to him.

NA-79 candidate Adnan Sarwar Cheema nomination form was rejected for not revealing his total financial assets.

While nomination papers of former federal ministers including Mehmood Bashir Virk for NA-80, PTI candidate Mian Tariq for NA-80, PTI candidate Imtiaz Safdar Warraich for NA-80, Barrister Usman Ibrahim for NA-82, PTI candidate Ali Ashraf Mughal for NA-82, PTI candidate Khawaja Saleh for NA-81, Tehreek-e-Labaik candidate Dr Ashraf Asif Jalali for NA-81, PTI candidate Rana Nazir for NA-83 were accepted by ROs.

Man dies, six injured in head-on crash

At least one man died while six others sustained critical injuries on Tuesday in a road accident at GT road near Shaheenabad in Gujranwala.

Reportedly, a passenger bus rammed into a loader Mazda killing one person on the spot.

The injured including two women were rushed to DHQ Hospital by Rescue 1122 team.

Four arrested after brawl erupts at toll plaza

The Sadar Kamoki Police on Tuesday arrested four persons including two lawyers after a clash erupted between lawyers and toll plaza staff at Kamoki toll plaza.

Reportedly, a brawl erupted when toll plaza employees asked lawyers to show their identity cards. The lawyers allegedly tortured them.

Following the information, the Sadar Kamoki Police reached on the spot, and arrested two toll plaza employees and two lawyers.

Meanwhile, further investigation is underway.
