BAHAWALPUR: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) was appealed by lawyers on Friday to take suo moto notice against the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) over his involvement in financial corruption, misconduct and irregularities.
Advocates including Dilshad Ahmed, Ch Farooq Bashir, Akram Hinjra and others alleged during a press conference that the performance of the university had declined under the tenure of VC Prof Dr Qaisar Mushtaq. Education and research activities were the worst affected while nepotism, corruption and wrong-doings were at peak.
Moreover, they claimed that the VC halted the evening classes at the campus under a suspected deal with private institutions, causing loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer. Students were deprived of the studies which they used to acquire in the evening classes.
The lawyers revealed that there were more than a hundred petitions pending in the court against the VC.
Admissions of new students fell to 10,000 only as compare to previous 20,000 under the tenure of Dr Qaisar Mushtaq.
They alleged that the Vice-Chancellor, who owns six luxury cars while plans to buy another, violated the code of conduct of the university.
They further stated that NAB approved proceedings against Dr Qaisar Mushtaq on April 12 in 2017, after his involvement in a massive corruption of 120 million rupees.
