Lady Health Workers protest their 10-month salary arrears

Published on: April 19, 2018 2:43 AM

KHYBER AGENCY: Lady Health Workers (LHWs) on Wednesday held a demonstration in front of Jamrud tehsil office against non-payment of their salaries.

Dozens of health workers gathered at the main Pak-Afghan highway and chanted slogans for the release of their salaries which are halted for the last ten months.

They expressed concerns that they had been executing their duties in the unsecure tribal region but the health department had ignored their services and halted their salaries for the last ten months.

“Most of the LHWs have no other source of income and non-payment of salaries equals to starving our families,” they said.

They urged the higher authorities to consider their demand as soon as possible.

Consequently, Jamrud tehsildar Shah Wazir negotiated with the health workers to end their agitation. After health workers dispersed peacefully, the traffic was resumed on the Pak-Afghan road.
