
KARACHI: Police on Thursday arrested an officer part of Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar’s encounter team in Naqeebullah Mehsud’s murder case.
Former SSP Rao, Anwar along with a team of ten policemen, was charged for the extra-judicial murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud. The policemen are also accused of killing three other people in a fake encounter in Karachi on orders of SSP Anwar.
The suspect arrested after a joint operation by the special police unit along with an intelligence agency has been identified as constable Shakeel. As per sources, First Investigation Report (FIR) has been registered against the accused.
Officials revealed that the accused had recorded his statement before the joint investigation team (JIT) investigating Naqeebullah’s murder.
SSP Anwar along with Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Qamar Ahmed and his team members of the encounter team is under remand with Malir Police.
Former SSP Malir Rao Anwar is alleged in the encounter killing of 27-year-old Naqeeb Ullah Mehsud on January 13 in the suburbs of Karachi. Naqeeb Ullah was killed on allegations of being affiliated with a terrorist organization and accused of being involved in several murders. SSP Anwar had previously surrendered on March 21 after appearing in the Supreme Court. He had been arrested and taken in remand for investigation.
