Ahad Cheema’s Ashiana Housing scam under accountability

Published on: March 5, 2018 2:14 PM

LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) informed the court that former Director General (DG) of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Ahad Cheema had abused the use of his authority in the Ashiana Housing scheme.

In the presence of Ahad Cheema and Shahid Shafiq, Chief Executive of Bismillah Engineering Services, the NAB officers proceeded with their arguments claiming that Cheema fraudulently led the scheme, abusing his powers. Meanwhile, Shafiq got the contract by submitting forged documents, claimed the accountability body.

NAB has consented on new investigation to probe into Cheema’s assets beyond means by formulating a team. However, piror to that, Shafiq had been taken in physical remand till Monday by the NAB under the Ashiana Housing scam investigation.

Upon being summoned by the NAB after his continuous disappearance, Cheema was arrested on February 21 by the NAB from MM Alam Road under allegations of corruption of taking 32-kanal land as bribe.

Chief Executive of Bismillah Engineering Services Shafiq has been arrested upon the information shared by Ahad Cheema. As it came to the knowledge that through a C-4 category subsidiary company of Paragon City a contract of 14 billion had been granted, NAB acquired details of any communication made between Cheema and Shafiq, and sought expert opinion for the recovery of any data that was lost.
