Sindh Senior Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah met Secretary Local Government Waseem Shamshad to review preparedness measures in view of the expected monsoon rains across the province. During the meeting, a detailed assessment was made of drainage arrangements, emergency response plans and the readiness of all local government institutions to effectively deal with any rain-related situation. The Minister directed all Municipal Corporations, Municipal Committees, Town Municipal Corporations and other concerned local government bodies to remain on high alert and ensure that all precautionary measures are completed before the onset of heavy rainfall.
He ordered the immediate cancellation of leave for officers and staff of all local government institutions, directing them to remain present at their duty stations to ensure a prompt response to any emergency. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah instructed the authorities to maintain strict monitoring of low-lying areas, major roads, underpasses, rainwater drains and other vulnerable locations where water accumulation is likely. He further directed that all dewatering pumps, suction machines, heavy machinery, generators and other emergency equipment must remain fully operational and be deployed at designated locations in advance to ensure uninterrupted drainage operations during rainfall.
The Minister also ordered the immediate completion of desilting and cleaning of storm-water drains, sewerage lines and drainage networks, warning that negligence or complacency would not be tolerated. He emphasized close coordination among all local government institutions, deputy commissioners and other relevant departments to ensure an effective and timely emergency response. The meeting also stressed the need to keep complaint cells and control rooms fully functional round the clock, while field teams should remain on high alert throughout the monsoon season.
Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the Sindh Government is utilizing all available resources to safeguard the lives and property of citizens and provide uninterrupted municipal services, directing all concerned authorities to perform their duties with professionalism, efficiency and dedication to minimize public inconvenience during the expected monsoon rains.
