
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met senior International Monetary Fund officials in Washington to review Pakistan’s macroeconomic performance and progress under the IMF-supported reform programme. The discussions focused on economic stability, structural reforms and future policy priorities.
According to the Finance Ministry, Aurangzeb met IMF First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz, Deputy Managing Director Nigel Clarke, Middle East and Central Asia Department Director Jihad Azour and Pakistan Mission Chief Iva Petrova. The meetings covered progress under the Extended Fund Facility and the Resilience and Sustainability Facility.

The finance minister highlighted improvements in Pakistan’s fiscal and external balances during the discussions. He also pointed to stronger foreign exchange reserves, record remittances, improved current account performance and the achievement of revenue targets. Officials reviewed progress on the broader reform agenda.
Additionally, both sides discussed tax and energy sector reforms, privatisation, tariff rationalisation, debt management and financing diversification. They also exchanged views on human capital development, women’s economic participation, technology-driven growth and export-led private sector expansion.
Aurangzeb thanked the IMF for recognising Pakistan’s programme ownership and reform progress. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, structural reforms and long-term economic transformation. The discussions also focused on maintaining policy credibility.

Meanwhile, the finance minister met US Export-Import Bank President John Jovanovic to discuss expanding bilateral economic cooperation. The talks focused on financing long-term projects, agricultural trade, hydrocarbons and strengthening commercial ties. Both sides agreed to develop a strategic framework for future cooperation.
Aurangzeb is visiting Washington for meetings with US and international financial officials. During the visit, he also discussed refinery modernisation, trade and investment with American counterparts. Pakistan and the United States continue negotiations on tariffs and broader economic cooperation.
