KP CM, Canadian high commissioner agree to boost cooperation

Published on: July 23, 2026 1:06 AM

Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi met Canadian High Commissioner Tarik Ali Khan here on Wednesday and agreed to enhance cooperation in trade, agriculture, mining, renewable energy and youth exchanges.

The Chief Minister said the provincial government was pursuing a trade-based economy policy rather than aid.

He said completion of the Chashma Right Bank Lift Canal would bring 700,000 acres of barren land under cultivation, triggering an agricultural revolution in southern districts.

He said KP generated electricity at Rs 7 per unit but had to buy it back at over Rs 50. The provincial government had established its own transmission line company to provide cheap electricity to industries and boost investment, exports and employment, he added.

The Chief Minister said KP’s high-quality potatoes, tobacco and valuable mineral resources offered immense opportunities for global investors.

He said following Chairman Imran Khan’s vision, the government was giving KP a new identity of self-reliance, global investment and economic development.
