England batter Joe Root has returned to the ICC Men’s ODI batting top 10 for the first time in five years, while Pakistan captain Babar Azam climbed one place to sixth in the latest rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The updated rankings reflect strong recent performances across international cricket, with several batters and bowlers making significant progress ahead of a busy international schedule.

Root jumped four places to eighth after playing a decisive role in England’s first bilateral ODI series victory over India since 2018. The experienced batter remained unbeaten throughout the three-match series, scoring 76, 99, and 74 to anchor England’s middle order. Meanwhile, teammate Ben Duckett surged 11 places to joint-19th after smashing a record 141 at Lord’s, the highest individual ODI score at the famous venue.
Pakistan also celebrated notable gains in the latest rankings as Babar Azam moved up to sixth among ODI batters. Fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf improved their positions in the bowling rankings, climbing to seventh and 20th respectively. Their progress rewarded a series of consistent performances and strengthened Pakistan’s presence in both batting and bowling charts.

Despite India’s ODI series defeat to England, several of its leading batters maintained strong positions in the rankings. Shubman Gill remained second, only one rating point behind New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who continues to lead the batting rankings with 802 points. Rohit Sharma stayed third after scoring a century against England, Virat Kohli held fourth place, while Shreyas Iyer climbed two spots to 13th following his half-century in Cardiff.
Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan retained his place as the world’s top-ranked ODI bowler, while England’s Jofra Archer rose to third and New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner advanced to fourth. West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie entered the top 10 after an impressive performance against New Zealand, while Axar Patel, Alzarri Joseph, Sam Curran, and Michael Bracewell also recorded ranking gains. In the updated T20I rankings, Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan reached a career-best 20th, Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett climbed to ninth, and several Bangladesh and Zimbabwe bowlers achieved new career-high positions after strong recent performances.
