The Pakistan Stock Exchange fell sharply on Wednesday as investors reduced exposure to equities amid external uncertainties. The benchmark KSE-100 Index dropped more than 1,000 points during trading. Broad-based selling weighed on overall market sentiment.
The KSE-100 Index opened with modest gains before reversing into negative territory. According to market data, the index reached an intraday high of 176,255.64. However, it later fell to an intraday low of 174,256.73.

Selling pressure intensified across several major sectors. Automobile assemblers, oil marketing companies, cement, fertiliser, and power generation stocks recorded notable declines. The widespread losses reflected cautious investor sentiment across the market.
Meanwhile, trading activity remained relatively strong despite the downturn. More than 172 million shares changed hands during the session. The total traded value stood at approximately Rs9.22 billion.
The decline followed Tuesday’s session when the KSE-100 Index closed 205.83 points higher at 176,133.56. Moreover, the market had surrendered most of its intraday gains after profit-taking erased a rally exceeding 2,000 points.

Analysts said the latest decline highlighted the market’s sensitivity to geopolitical developments and external risks. Additionally, investors continued to reassess their positions amid uncertainty. Market sentiment remained cautious throughout the trading session.
Therefore, the market’s direction will depend on whether buying interest returns at lower levels. Continued selling could extend losses in the benchmark index. Investors are expected to monitor global and domestic developments closely.
