Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan has made remarkable progress in developing indigenous autonomous defence capabilities. He highlighted advances in locally produced technology during the Indus Robotics and Autonomous Systems Expo 2026. The remarks underscored Pakistan’s focus on strengthening domestic defence innovation.
The prime minister addressed the two-day Indus Robotics and Autonomous Systems Expo 2026 at the Pak-China Friendship Centre in Islamabad. He said the country’s armed forces had adopted cutting-edge technologies. Shehbaz also praised the leadership of Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

According to the prime minister, Pakistan has expanded indigenous capabilities in defence and security. He said simulators displayed at the event were fully manufactured and assembled in Pakistan. Moreover, he noted that drones had achieved 60 percent indigenisation.
Additionally, Shehbaz said several other advanced machines were also developed locally. He described the exhibited technologies as evidence of Pakistan’s growing technological expertise. The premier called the achievements a significant milestone for the country.
The development reflects Pakistan’s broader efforts to reduce reliance on imported defence technologies. Moreover, increased local production could strengthen national security and support technological growth. Indigenous innovation may also create opportunities for the domestic defence industry.

Meanwhile, the prime minister recalled the armed forces’ use of advanced autonomous systems to protect the country’s physical and cyber frontiers. He said these capabilities were employed under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, with support from the air and naval chiefs.
Therefore, Pakistan is expected to continue investing in indigenous defence technologies and autonomous systems. Officials say expanding local capabilities remains important for future security and technological advancement. The expo continues through Thursday in Islamabad.
