Punjab Launches Probe into Alleged Changes to Ring Road Design

Published on: July 12, 2026 12:48 AM

Rawalpindi Ring Road

The Punjab government has launched an investigation into the Rawalpindi Ring Road investigation over alleged changes to the design of the Rawalpindi Ring Road project. Officials have also begun considering the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to examine the matter.

As part of the inquiry, the Additional Chief Secretary has requested the complete project record from the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA). Authorities are reviewing all relevant documents to determine whether any unauthorized changes were made to the approved project design.

According to official sources, investigators are examining no-objection certificates (NOCs), approved layout plans, and other project approvals. The review aims to verify whether all procedures were followed according to the law.

Sources said that more than Rs. 753.2 million was invested in the Ring Road Service Area project, while Rs. 31.784 million was deposited in government dues. These financial records are also being reviewed as part of the investigation.

The issue of alleged design changes first emerged during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s tenure, when action was taken against the then Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi. The Rawalpindi Ring Road investigation is expected to determine whether any irregularities occurred in the project.
