
Pakistan’s UN envoy Asim Iftikhar has called for renewed diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions, stressing that continued dialogue and peaceful engagement remain the most effective path toward resolving disputes and promoting long-term stability.

Speaking at a United Nations Security Council session, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar, said the current rise in regional tensions benefits no country and warned that continued violence and instability could have serious consequences for peace and security.
He emphasized that diplomacy and sustained negotiations are the only viable means of achieving lasting solutions to complex and sensitive issues. According to the Pakistani envoy, all parties should prioritize constructive engagement and avoid actions that could further complicate the regional security environment.
Asim Iftikhar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at de-escalation, ceasefire efforts and the promotion of regional stability. He said Islamabad continues to play a constructive diplomatic role by encouraging dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution.
The envoy also urged all stakeholders to exercise restraint during ongoing sensitive negotiations. He noted that statements or actions capable of creating misunderstandings or increasing mistrust should be avoided, as they could undermine efforts to achieve lasting peace.
Highlighting the importance of confidence-building measures, he said the international community should remain focused on ensuring the effective implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, describing it as an important framework for advancing diplomatic engagement and reducing tensions.
Pakistan has consistently advocated for resolving international disputes through dialogue, international law and multilateral cooperation. The country’s representatives at global forums have repeatedly emphasized the need for peaceful negotiations instead of confrontation, particularly during periods of heightened regional uncertainty.
