Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said that Kahna tragedy has deeply affected her, adding that incidents like these leave her unable to sleep at night. Speaking at a gathering of the Paigham-e-Aman Committee members in Lahore, she stressed the importance of protecting children and preventing such heartbreaking events.
Referring to the Kahna incident in which 14 children lost their lives, the chief minister urged parents to make sure their children are safe before sending them outside. She said the loss of innocent lives is painful for everyone and requires greater attention from both families and authorities.
Maryam Nawaz also spoke about another tragic case in Sargodha involving a young girl, describing it as deeply disturbing. She said the government is fulfilling its responsibilities, but it cannot monitor every home. She emphasized that families must also focus on raising their children with strong moral values.
The chief minister said that social problems cannot be solved by the government alone and require the collective efforts of society. She added that all provincial institutions, the Punjab Cabinet, the Inspector General of Police, and the administration are working together to maintain peace and improve public safety.
Concluding her address, Maryam Nawaz said the Kahna tragedy serves as a reminder that protecting children and addressing social issues must remain a shared responsibility. She also praised the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, saying their leadership had enhanced Pakistan’s standing on the international stage.
