Brake failure kills 40 in Zhob

Published on: July 3, 2026 4:03 PM

A passenger bus plunged into a ravine in Zhob after an apparent brake failure, killing 40 people. The crash raised fresh concerns about road safety and possible overloading on mountain routes. Women, children, survivors, and grieving families were among those most affected by the devastating tragedy.

Police said the accident occurred in the Danasar area of Zhob near the Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. Authorities said the bus lost control after its brakes apparently failed. Eight people suffered injuries, including women and children. Rescue workers shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, emergency teams continued rescue operations at the crash site.

Balochistan Chief Minister’s media adviser Shahid Rind confirmed that 40 people had died in the accident. He said the crash happened in the border region between Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Furthermore, rescue teams from both provincial governments joined the operation. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Health Department, Frontier Corps, and other agencies remained active. He also thanked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for its immediate support.

Initial reports suggested the bus was carrying more passengers than its approved capacity. Officials said passengers from another broken-down bus had also boarded the vehicle. Consequently, authorities launched a detailed investigation into the accident’s exact cause. Officials are identifying the victims and ensuring proper medical treatment for the injured. The Balochistan government promised to make the investigation findings public after completion.

The Balochistan government also assured affected families of full support during this difficult time.
