Maryam Nawaz meets Kahna tragedy victims’ families, expressing condolences, announcing financial assistance

Published on: July 3, 2026 3:30 PM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met the families affected by the Kahna tuition centre roof collapse, expressing condolences and announcing financial assistance for the victims during a visit to Lahore.

The chief minister offered sympathy to the grieving parents and consoled the families who lost their children in the tragic incident. During the meeting, she embraced several bereaved mothers and assured them that the Punjab government would continue to stand by them during this difficult time.

As part of the provincial government’s relief package, Maryam Nawaz distributed compensation cheques to the affected families. Under the announced package, the families of each child who lost their life will receive Rs2 million, while every injured victim will be provided Rs500,000 in financial assistance.

Addressing the families, the chief minister said no amount of financial compensation could heal the pain of parents who had lost their children. She described the deaths of the young students as heartbreaking and pledged that the government would not leave the affected families alone.

“You are not alone in this difficult time. The grief of your children is my own grief,” she told the bereaved families, reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to supporting them.

Maryam Nawaz also directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for those injured in the collapse and instructed officials to remain in close contact with the victims’ families.

The Kahna tragedy claimed the lives of several children after the roof of a tuition centre collapsed, raising serious concerns over the safety standards of private educational facilities. The incident prompted authorities to launch an investigation and review building safety regulations for tuition centres and similar institutions across Punjab.

The chief minister said the government would continue extending every possible support to the affected families while pursuing measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future through stronger oversight and improved safety standards.
