US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that relations with Iran were improving following recent technical talks in Qatar. He said the negotiations were progressing well toward advancing denuclearisation and regional stability. The discussions are significant for shipping security and efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire.
Speaking to reporters in Washington, Trump said the United States was “getting along very well” with Iran. He described the recent meetings as productive and said Iran had “come a long way.” Trump added that the denuclearisation process was moving forward and expressed confidence about future progress.
The United States and Iran held indirect technical talks in Doha on Wednesday. The discussions focused on ensuring the flow of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and supporting efforts to achieve a lasting ceasefire. Qatar and Pakistan continued to mediate the negotiations between both sides.
Before the talks, Jared Kushner and US envoy Steve Witkoff met Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The meeting aimed to prepare the groundwork for the negotiations. However, both American officials did not participate in the technical discussions themselves.
The latest diplomatic engagement reflects continued efforts to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran. Officials from both sides remain focused on resolving key security concerns through dialogue. The outcome of the talks could influence regional stability and maritime security in the Gulf.
