Iran rules out US technical meetings

Iran said no technical meetings with the United States are scheduled this week under their existing memorandum of understanding. The decision pauses working-level discussions, slowing progress on implementing agreed commitments between both sides. The announcement affects ongoing diplomatic efforts while regional mediators continue consultations with Iranian officials.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed that technical working groups will not meet their US counterparts this week. He said no technical-level discussions are planned under the framework of the current memorandum of understanding. However, he did not explain the reason for the pause in meetings.

Meanwhile, Gharibabadi said consultations with Qatar are continuing as diplomatic contacts remain active. He explained that discussions focus on monitoring and following up on commitments made by the other side. Qatar has continued supporting communication efforts between Tehran and Washington during recent negotiations.

The absence of technical meetings does not necessarily signal the end of diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States. Instead, political consultations and indirect contacts may continue through regional partners. Observers will closely watch whether technical discussions resume in the coming weeks.

Iran and the United States have relied on multiple rounds of indirect diplomacy to address key disputes. For now, Qatar remains involved in facilitating dialogue while both sides assess the next phase of negotiations.
