The Karachi Rangers camp attack investigation took a new turn after an injured suspect arrested in connection with the incident claimed that he is from Afghanistan and received militant training there. The suspect also alleged that he entered Pakistan with other members of the group as part of the attack plan.
According to his statement, the suspect identified himself as Usman Ali and claimed he was accompanied by three others named Abdul Hadi, Janan, and Umar Farooq. He alleged that Janan threw the explosive device at the Pakistan Rangers camp, while the group had entered Pakistan seven days earlier and stayed with Abdul Hadi, who was later killed during the operation.
The suspect further claimed that the group was sheltered in an under-construction building before the attack. He alleged that the weapons used in the assault were brought from Waziristan by Abdul Hadi. He also said he was shot while trying to escape and was subsequently arrested in an injured condition.
In his statement, the suspect claimed he was affiliated with the banned group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and alleged that all members received military and suicide vest training in Afghanistan. He further claimed that a commander identified as Ahrar Maulvi and a trainer named Umar Qari supervised their training, while arrangements for their journey to Karachi were made before they left Afghanistan.
The suspect also alleged that Abdul Hadi had previously visited Pakistan and guided the group throughout the operation. He claimed they were briefed about Pakistan Rangers only after arriving in the country. Authorities have not independently verified these claims, and the investigation into the Karachi Rangers camp attack remains ongoing.
