Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the nation to draw lasting guidance from the teachings and sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), saying Youm-e-Ashura reminds Muslims of faith, patience, truthfulness and social reform. In his message on the occasion of 10th Muharram-ul-Haram, he described Ashura as one of the most meaningful days in Islamic history, offering timeless lessons of perseverance, righteousness and selfless devotion.
The prime minister said Ashura commemorates Allah Almighty’s support for the believers and the triumph of truth over falsehood. He added that the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his loyal companions gave the day an everlasting place in Islamic history by defending justice, dignity and righteousness.
Describing the tragedy of Karbala as a guiding light for humanity, Shehbaz Sharif said the historic event teaches that principles and values are the foundation of a dignified society. He stressed that Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) showed through his sacrifice that protecting truth, justice and human dignity is far greater than accepting oppression, injustice or falsehood.
Furthermore, the prime minister said Karbala symbolises the reform of the Muslim Ummah, the revival of the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the promotion of virtue. He urged citizens to strengthen justice, patience, tolerance and responsibility while rejecting hatred, division and intolerance in favour of national unity, mutual respect and inter-sect harmony.
Shehbaz Sharif also called upon religious scholars, spiritual leaders, media organisations and young people to spread the true message of Ashura and discourage incitement. Concluding his message, he urged Pakistanis to protect the rights of the weak, uphold truth and justice, and work together for a peaceful, united and prosperous Pakistan while praying for the well-being of the Muslim Ummah.
