Amir Muqam pays tribute to Poonch’s sacrifices

Published on: June 26, 2026 6:18 AM

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Engr Amir Muqam, paid tribute to the people of Poonch Division and Rawalakot for their unwavering love for Pakistan and their historic sacrifices.

He said that Poonch Division has a proud and distinguished history of sacrifices for both Pakistan and Kashmir. Referring to the legendary figure Sepoy Maqbool, the minister said that despite having his tongue cut out, he continued to raise the slogan “Pakistan Zindabad,” symbolizing the extraordinary loyalty and commitment of Kashmiris to Pakistan.

Muqam remarked that Sepoy Maqbool’s sacrifice became a lasting testament to the unparalleled devotion of the Kashmiri people.

He noted that Azad Kashmir’s first President, Sardar Ibrahim Khan, played a historic role by presenting the Resolution of Accession to Pakistan in Srinagar despite the presence of Indian forces.

Muqam said that the people of Poonch have a remarkable history of patriotism, sacrifice, and struggle that cannot be overlooked.

He stressed that questioning the patriotism of an entire city, region, or population because of a handful of individuals with a particular mindset is neither fair nor appropriate.

He further stated that the views of a few individuals cannot be attributed to the people of an entire region or division. The anti-Pakistan or anti-Kashmir narratives do not represent any specific geographical area but rather reflect the thinking of certain elements.

He reiterated that the people of Rawalakot, Poonch, and Azad Kashmir have consistently demonstrated loyalty and solidarity with Pakistan.

Addressing public welfare matters, Muqam confirmed that the relief measures agreed upon with the Public Action Committee remain fully intact and that the government is committed to honoring its promises.

He clarified that no changes have been made to agreements concerning public relief, including electricity and flour subsidies.

The minister also assured that the benefits of the 38-point public relief package will continue in the future.

Speaking about political affairs, Muqam highlighted the extraordinary level of interest in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party tickets, noting that dozens of candidates submitted applications in several constituencies. He said that ticket allocations were made on the basis of merit and electoral strategy.

He emphasized that party leaders who were not awarded tickets remain valuable assets to the PML-N. Efforts to engage and reconcile dissatisfied leaders are ongoing, with party unity and discipline being treated as top priorities.

The minister urged PML-N workers to campaign for the party and its electoral symbol rather than focusing solely on individual candidates.

He added that the party is fully prepared for the upcoming Azad Kashmir elections and called on both workers and leaders to place party interests above personal ambitions.
