Five killed in Ukrainian missile strike on Russian city

Ukrainian missile strike kills 5 in Russia's Voronezh city — governor

Voronezh: At least five people were killed and dozens injured in a Ukrainian missile strike on the Russian city of Voronezh, according to regional authorities, as attacks between the two countries continue to intensify.

Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev said the missile attack caused significant damage to residential and industrial areas. Several apartment buildings suffered shattered windows and damaged facades, while multiple vehicles were also affected by the blast.

In a statement shared on Telegram, Gusev expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. He added that the missile threat alert issued for the region had later been lifted.

Authorities also urged residents not to publish photographs or videos from the attack sites, warning that such material could reveal sensitive locations and information.

The strike comes amid a sharp escalation in cross-border attacks between Russia and Ukraine. Both sides continue to launch drone and missile operations while disputing reports regarding casualties and the extent of damage inflicted.

Russia’s aviation authorities temporarily imposed flight restrictions at several airports, including those in Bugulma, Kazan, Nizhnekamsk and Cheboksary, following concerns over possible Ukrainian air raids.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s General Staff reported carrying out strikes against multiple Russian military and infrastructure targets. According to Ukrainian officials, operations targeted a space communications centre in the Moscow region, drone operator training facilities and logistics infrastructure supporting Russian military activities.

Ukraine also claimed to have hit command posts and military positions in Russian-controlled territories, as well as infrastructure at the port of Kavkaz in Russia’s Krasnodar region.

On the other hand, Russia’s Defence Ministry stated that its air defence systems intercepted 12 guided aerial bombs and 734 Ukrainian drones over the previous 24 hours. The ministry further claimed that Russian forces had struck facilities used for assembling and storing long-range Ukrainian drones.

Russian troops are also continuing offensive operations in several sectors of the front line, including areas near the eastern Ukrainian town of Kostiantynivka, according to Moscow.

The latest exchange of attacks highlights the ongoing intensity of the conflict, with both sides reporting military successes while civilian areas continue to face the consequences of the war.
