KU, CTD sign MoU to offer internships, technical support

Published on: June 19, 2026 8:59 AM

The University of Karachi and the Counter Terrorism Department signed the memorandum of understanding at the Vice Chancellor Secretariat on Thursday. KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi and CTD Deputy Inspector General Police Capt. (R) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar inked the MoU documents.

As per the MoU, the CTD will offer internships to the students of KU’s Department of Computer Science to establish a collaborative framework for mutual academic, technical, and professional development.

The primary objective of the MoU is to foster institutional cooperation. The internship opportunities will provide students with practical industry experience through live projects, while the DSC will offer professional training and computer-related education to the CTD personnel.

According to the MoU, the students of the third and final years will be selected for the structured internship programs, which will focus on enhancing the students’ practical software engineering, data analysis, and technical learning skills.

The CTD will grant selected students the opportunity to work on real-world, live technological projects, giving them valuable industry insights and practical experience.

On this occasion, the CTD’s DIG Capt. (R) Ghulam Azfar Mahesar expressed that his department is willing to establish a strong liaison with academia. Besides our main work, we are also working on interacting with youngsters to reduce violent behavior and thinking among them, and the universities are the best platforms to engage with them.

“Both institutions have recognized the importance of bridging the gap between academia and law enforcement through technological innovation and capacity building.”

The Chairperson of KU’s DSC Professor Dr Sadiq Ali Khan shared that the department will be assisting in the capacity building of the CTD officers through practical, high-impact training to ensure immediate technical readiness.

The KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi mentioned that owing to the country’s geopolitical importance, we always face terrorist activities, and only committed and skilled forces equipped with the latest technology can address the problem.

He said that the CTD is one of the prime counter terrorism agencies in the province. He expressed that the DSC and the CTD have shown interest in preparing specialized short courses targeting modern computing tools, technical advancements, and data management for the CTD personnel.
