At least one child was martyred while five others including children were injured after a suspected suicide bombing attempt was thwarted near a mosque in Lakki Marwat on Friday.
As per local sources, an operative belonging to the Khawarij attempted to target a local mosque during Friday prayers with the intent of executing a suicide bombing.
The terrorist was trying to reach the mosque, but timely and courageous action by local citizens successfully neutralized and killed the attacker before he could penetrate the premises.
However, the report added, explosive material attached to his motorcycle detonated, resulting in martyrdom of a five year old girl, and injuries to five other individuals, including children.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile, security forces cordoned off the entire area and launched a comprehensive search operation.
School in Lakki Marwat partially damaged in blast
Unknown saboteurs carried out an explosion at a Government Middle School in Sheri Khel area, in the jurisdiction of Shahbaz Khel Police Station in Lakki Marwat district on Friday.
The blast caused partial damage to the school building.
According to local police, the school was unoccupied at the time of the incident and no casualties or injuries were reported. The explosion, however, created fear and concern among residents of the area.
Initial reports indicate that several sections of the school building were affected by the blast, although the full extent of the damage has not yet been determined.
Following the incident, security measures in the area were tightened and authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible for the attack.
