Akram rebukes Indian user over misinformation

Published on: June 10, 2026 11:24 PM

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has strongly criticised a social media user for sharing a fabricated quote attributed to him about Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav. The former fast bowler rejected the claim and warned users against spreading misinformation. The incident highlights growing concerns over fake news in sports discussions and affects cricket fans across social media platforms.

Akram addressed the issue on the social media platform X, where the false quote was circulated. He denied ever making the statement and said the attribution was completely incorrect. Moreover, he cautioned users to verify information before sharing it online.

The fabricated post suggested Akram had commented on differences in selection policies between Pakistan and India. It falsely claimed he made remarks about Suryakumar Yadav’s career span. Furthermore, Akram directly responded to the user and demanded accountability for spreading misinformation.

🚨”IF SURYAKUMAR YADAV WERE FROM PAKISTAN, HE WOULD HAVE PLAYED FOR 5 MORE YEARS AFTER WINIING WC”🚨

Wasim Akram :- “Parchi doesn’t work in India. There is only one rule there perform or make way. It doesn’t matter if you’ve won a World Cup, led the team successfully, or gone… pic.twitter.com/wABh7G8asb

In his response, Akram stressed the importance of verifying content before posting it online. He said misinformation is becoming increasingly common on social media platforms. Additionally, he urged users to “triple-check” information before believing or sharing it.

Meanwhile, the post was widely circulated before being publicly debunked by Akram himself. Still, the incident reflects ongoing challenges of digital misinformation in sports narratives. However, Akram’s response reinforced calls for responsible social media use among fans.
