Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi is likely to miss the upcoming Test tours of the West Indies and England. Selectors are reportedly considering changes to the pace attack ahead of the crucial series. The development could significantly impact Pakistan’s red-ball plans for the 2026 season.
The possibility emerged after the selection committee announced a 22-player squad for the national red-ball camp without including Shaheen. Sources said the left-arm pacer was informed that his absence from domestic first-class cricket had affected his selection prospects. As a result, he may not be considered for the upcoming overseas assignments.

The decision has raised questions because the same criterion was not applied during Pakistan’s recent Test series against Bangladesh. Shaheen remains one of Pakistan’s most successful Test bowlers in recent years. He has claimed 60 wickets in his last 16 Test matches and owns an impressive record in West Indies conditions.
Meanwhile, selectors are reportedly impressed by performances in the Pakistan Super League and are considering fresh options. Fast bowlers Mohammad Ali and Ubaid Shah are among the leading contenders for selection. Experienced pacers Mohammad Abbas, Aamir Jamal, and Khurram Shehzad are also under consideration for the squad.

The national red-ball camp will run from June 8 to July 10 as preparations intensify for the overseas tours. Pakistan will begin a two-Test series in the West Indies on July 25 before facing England in a three-Test series starting August 19. Shaheen has taken 126 wickets in 34 Tests, making his potential omission one of the most significant selection decisions of the season.
