Khawaja Asif warns India of consequences

Published on: June 2, 2026 4:00 AM

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif issued a strong response to recent remarks by India’s army chief, warning against any future confrontation. The comments matter because they come amid continuing tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours. The statements affect regional security, diplomatic relations, and military stability in South Asia.

Speaking to the media, Asif said India had suffered setbacks during previous confrontations and continued to face the consequences of those outcomes. He argued that Indian leaders were still dealing with the fallout from past military tensions. The defence minister suggested that any future escalation would produce similar results.

Furthermore, Asif accused India of pursuing a proxy conflict through Afghanistan. He claimed that Indian-backed proxies were operating in Afghanistan and attempting to undermine Pakistan’s security interests. However, he did not provide evidence to support the allegations during his remarks.

The minister also expressed confidence in Pakistan’s military capabilities. He said the armed forces were prepared to respond to any challenge and would defend the country against external threats. His comments reflected Islamabad’s long-standing position that national security remains a top priority.

Relations between Pakistan and India have remained strained due to longstanding disputes and recurring security concerns. Statements from political and military leaders on both sides often attract close regional and international attention. Analysts continue to stress the importance of dialogue and diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation between the neighbouring countries.
