On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Governor of Makkah and Vice President of the Permanent Committee for Hajj and Umrah, Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, officially handed over the new cover of the Holy Kaaba (The Kiswah) to the chief key holder of the Kaaba, Abdul Malik Al-Shaibi. According to Saudi media, the prestigious handover ceremony took place in Makkah, where the Minister of Hajj and Umrah and Chairman of the General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, along with Chief Keyholder Abdul Malik Al-Shaibi, signed the official handover documents. This ceremony formally marks the beginning of the annual tradition of replacing the Kiswah, which takes place on the 1st of Muharram, signaling the start of the new Islamic year. Manufactured at the King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswah, the new cover is crafted from pure natural silk dyed in the highest quality black.
