Sindh home minister orders heightened Eid security measures

Published on: May 27, 2026 9:03 AM

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has directed authorities to adopt extraordinary security measures at central mosques, imambargahs and open grounds for Eid al-Adha prayers across the province.

According to an official statement issued on Tuesday, the Sindh Home Minister also ordered stricter police patrolling on routes leading to and from cattle markets to ensure public safety during the Eid holidays.

He directed law enforcement agencies to coordinate comprehensive security arrangements at all designated sacrificial sites for the protection of citizens.

Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar further instructed police personnel to remain mindful of law-abiding citizens while performing their duties.

The minister also emphasised ensuring the safety of people returning to their homes late at night on Chand Raat and during Eid-related activities.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Javed Alam Odho chaired an important meeting at the Central Police Office Karachi to review overall security arrangements and the law and order situation across the province ahead of Eid al-Adha.

According to a spokesperson for Sindh Police on Tuesday, the meeting was attended in person by additional IGs of Karachi and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), along with DIGs of Sindh Highway and Motorway Police, Special Branch, Training, Rapid Response Force (RRF), Traffic Karachi and CIA.

Zonal DIGs, the Director General of Safe City Authority, and AIGs of administration, operations, media and public relations also attended, while Rangers officials, district SSPs and officers of SIU, AVCC and AVLC joined the meeting through video link.

The participants were briefed by senior police officers on the overall security situation and challenges relating to Eidul Azha arrangements across the province.

Addressing the meeting, the IGP Sindh directed all police units to further tighten security measures in view of the prevailing security situation in the country.

He stressed the need for effective intelligence-sharing and assessment among all law enforcement units and called for intensifying intelligence-based operations to curb crime.

Javed Alam Odho also directed police officials to accelerate combing operations against street criminals in coordination with law enforcement agencies and ensure strict implementation of a zero-tolerance policy against criminal elements.

The IGP Sindh instructed officers to make police patrolling, snap checking and picketing more effective in all districts and emphasised strengthening coordination to prevent crime across the province.

He further ordered enhanced security at entry and exit points, border areas and highways, while directing all officers to ensure their presence in the field for the protection of life and property.

The IGP Sindh also asked district police to coordinate with local communities and make appropriate arrangements in view of the possible heatwave situation.
