IG reviews Eid security arrangements across Punjab

Published on: May 27, 2026 8:54 AM

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem on Tuesday chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office to review the overall security situation in the province and arrangements for Eidul Azha.

According to a spokesperson for Punjab Police, regional police officers (RPOs), city police officers (CPOs), district police officers (DPOs) and other concerned officers participated in the meeting through video link and briefed the IGP on security measures taken in their respective areas.

IGP Abdul Kareem directed officials to place security arrangements on high alert at mosques, places of worship, cattle markets, commercial centres, important installations, embassies and other sensitive locations during Eid.

He also ordered further strengthening of security for Chinese and other foreign nationals, including their residences, workplaces, consulates and movement routes.

The IGP Punjab directed police officers, Special Branch, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and other security agencies to review and further improve security protocols for foreign nationals.

He instructed RPOs, CPOs and DPOs to personally visit the field and inspect security arrangements at mosques, sensitive locations and important installations.

Abdul Kareem also ordered enhanced security at inter-provincial border checkpoints and law enforcement buildings, directing personnel deployed there to remain highly alert during duty.

He directed strict surveillance of Fitna Al-Khawarij, Fitna Al-Hindustan and other anti-state elements and ordered uninterrupted intelligence-based search, sweep and combing operations, particularly in border areas.

He further directed authorities to accelerate the ongoing deportation campaign against illegally residing Afghan nationals and other undocumented foreign nationals.

IGP Abdul Kareem said continuous monitoring of markets, business centres, places of worship and sensitive areas should be ensured through Punjab Safe Cities Authority cameras to enable immediate action against suspicious activities.

The meeting was attended through video link by Bilal Siddique Kamyana, Muhammad Kamran Khan, all RPOs, CPOs and DPOs, while Additional IG Operations Punjab Muhammad Ali Nekokara and AIG Operations Zahid Nawaz Marwat were present in the meeting.

Police have finalized a comprehensive security and traffic management plan for Eidul Azha to ensure public safety, maintain a peaceful environment, and keep traffic flowing smoothly across the district during the festive holidays.

According to City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mehmood Hamdani, more than 3,700 police officers and personnel will perform duties at Eid congregations, public places, and major highways throughout the district.

The CPO said special security and traffic arrangements have been made for Eid prayers at 736 mosques, 62 Imambargahs, and 60 open grounds to provide citizens with a safe and convenient environment during the auspicious occassion.

To maintain smooth traffic flow across the city, over 1,000 traffic officers and personnel will remain deployed on roads and key intersections.

In addition, 25 special checkpoints have been established to prevent one-wheeling and ensure public safety, where more than 250 officers and officials will perform duties.

Police authorities have also enhanced security at parks, public places, and recreational areas, with more than 350 personnel assigned to these locations. Meanwhile, 277 officers and jawans will perform security duties at graveyards during Eid days.

The CPO further said a special patrolling plan has been devised through police mobiles and motorcycle squads, while more than 43 special pickets have been set up across the district to strengthen security monitoring.

He added that alongside district police, the Elite Force, Ladies Police, Dolphin Force, and Muhafiz Squad will also remain on duty during Eid ul Azha, while senior police officers will personally supervise field operations to ensure effective implementation of the security plan.

According to a spokesperson for Rawalpindi Police, all available resources are being utilized to ensure foolproof security arrangements so citizens can celebrate Eid ul Azha in a peaceful and secure environment.

Lahore Traffic Police issued a comprehensive traffic advisory plan for Eidul Azha to ensure smooth traffic flow and facilitate citizens during the holidays.

According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, special arrangements had been made to maintain uninterrupted traffic movement across the city.

He said additional traffic personnel would be deployed at Eid prayer congregations, mosques and Eidgahs, while special traffic duties would also be assigned outside major recreational spots, including Lahore Zoo, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Greater Iqbal Park, Jallo Park and Model Town Park.

Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi said extra traffic wardens would also be deployed around cemeteries located on busy roads to facilitate visitors and prevent traffic congestion.

He said a separate traffic management plan had been prepared for more than 70 markets and bazaars on Chand Raat.

Under the supervision of divisional officers, 13 DSPs would perform duties, while more than 3,000 traffic officials would remain deployed across the city during all three days of Eid.

The CTO Lahore said the zero-tolerance policy against overcharging and overloading would continue during Eid holidays.

He added that 110 patrolling officers would be deployed on busy roads to prevent one-wheeling, reckless driving and hooliganism, while assistance from Punjab Safe Cities Authority cameras would also be utilized for monitoring purposes.

Raheem Shirazi said Traffic Police would ensure the provision of the best possible traffic facilities to citizens and maintain smooth traffic flow throughout Eid holidays.
