Pakistan holidays May 2026

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department has announced summer vacations for educational institutions across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid rising temperatures in different parts of the province.

According to an official notification issued on Thursday, primary schools located in the plain areas of the province will remain closed from June 1 to August 31. The decision applies to both government and private educational institutions operating in lowland districts.

The department also confirmed that middle and high schools in the plain regions will begin summer vacations from June 15, with classes scheduled to resume on September 1 after the end of the holiday period.

For schools situated in the upper districts and cooler mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, summer vacations will be observed from July 1 to August 31 due to comparatively moderate weather conditions in those areas.

The announcement comes as several provinces across Pakistan are adjusting academic schedules to protect students and teachers from extreme summer heat. Education authorities said the staggered vacation plan was designed to account for varying climate conditions between plain and hilly districts.

Parents, students and school administrations have been advised to follow the official schedule issued by the education department and prepare for the reopening of schools in September.

The provincial government stated that educational activities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would fully resume on September 1 after the completion of summer holidays. Officials added that any further changes to the academic calendar would be communicated through formal notifications if required.

Summer vacations are traditionally observed across Pakistan during the hottest months of the year, with authorities often revising schedules depending on weather patterns and heatwave conditions.
