Punjab to set up AI-based dashboard to secure over 22m metric tonnes of wheat

Published on: May 22, 2026 6:39 AM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was informed during a special meeting that the province possesses abundant wheat reserves, with a record production of more than 22 million metric tonnes achieved this year.

Chairing a high-level meeting on wheat, agriculture and food safety & consumer protection, the chief minister said, “Alhamdulillah, Punjab has sufficient wheat stocks.”

The meeting decided to establish an AI-based advanced live dashboard to safeguard every grain of wheat in the province.

The briefing informed the chief minister that the live dashboard would play a pivotal role in foolproof food policy-making by monitoring wheat demand, supply, stock levels and price control mechanisms.

The system will also enable day-to-day and second-to-second digital monitoring of wheat stocks and the supply chain across Punjab.

The meeting approved allowing licensed aggregators and stockists to legally store wheat across the province.

It was further decided that all licensed aggregators and stockists would be bound to declare their wheat stocks.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed authorities to initiate strict legal action under the Anti-Hoarding Act against those failing to declare wheat stocks within two weeks.

The meeting also indicated that the government may offer incentives to aggregators who honestly declare their wheat reserves.

During the meeting, major decisions were taken regarding agriculture, food safety, wheat availability and price stability.

The chief minister was given a detailed briefing on wheat, agriculture and food safety & consumer protection measures.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed officials to provide maximum facilities and ease of doing business to farmers, aggregators, millers and major stockists. She also ordered a complete overhaul and revamping of the Food Department in line with modern governance requirements.

The chief minister strictly directed authorities to keep roti and naan prices under control and ensure the availability of affordable flour for the public. She further instructed officials to make the advanced live dashboard operational at the earliest to ensure complete protection of wheat stocks across the province.
