Rs 1.9bn spent for socio-economic uplift in project area of Mohmand Dam

Besides constructing main works of Mohmand Dam Project, WAPDA has also been implementing a number of schemes, identified by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in consultation with the local representatives for socio-economic development of the people residing in the Project area, as Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). A sum of Rs. 4.5 billion has been earmarked for 54 schemes for the purpose.

So far, Rs 1.9 billion have been spent in Phase-I on completion of 18 schemes in the Project area relating to infrastructure development, drinking water, health, education, sports and electricity etc. Works on other key schemes including Abazai-Yousuf Baba Road and drinking water supply for Sappare Mulagori are in progress, while construction of five schools – three in District Mohmand, one in District Bajaur and one in District Malakand – are also set to commence soon. These schools include Government Primary School Shaheed Banda, Tehsil Pindyali; Government Girls Primary School Shaheed Banda, Tehsil Pindyali; Government Primary School Daryab Kor, Tehsil Pindyali; Governmet Girls Primary School Johar, Bajaur and Government Girls Primary School Ghwand, Malakand.

GM/PD Mohmand Dam Project Fasih Ullah Paracha said this in a meeting, held to review development schemes under CBMs of the Project. The meeting, presided over by Additional Chief Secretary (P&D) Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Lt (Retd) Islam Zeb was also attended by MNA from District Mohmand Sajid Khan.

It is important to note that WAPDA is constructing Mohmand Dam Project on River Swat to store 1.29 MAF of water, 800 MW low-cost and environment-friendly electricity and provide 300 million gallon per day water to Peshawar for municipal use.
