Published on: May 19, 2026 7:15 PM

Shehbaz Sharif chaired an important meeting of the Balochistan Apex Committee during his one-day visit to Quetta, where top civilian and military leaders reviewed the province’s overall law and order situation. The session focused on rising security challenges, ongoing counterterrorism operations, and measures aimed at strengthening peace across Balochistan. After completing the visit and high-level consultations, the prime minister later departed for Islamabad following the conclusion of the meeting.

Senior military leadership, including Syed Asim Munir, attended the meeting alongside other top security officials and provincial authorities. Participants carried out a detailed assessment of the current security environment and discussed strategies to improve coordination between law enforcement agencies and security institutions. Officials also reviewed ongoing operations targeting militant networks and groups accused of destabilising peace in different parts of the province.

During the meeting, participants paid tribute to the sacrifices rendered by security personnel and martyrs in the fight against militancy and terrorism. Committee members acknowledged the role of armed forces, police, and other security agencies in maintaining stability despite persistent security threats in sensitive areas. They also stressed that the sacrifices made by martyrs would continue guiding national efforts aimed at restoring long-term peace and security across the country.

Sarfraz Bugti, provincial ministers, and senior administrative officials also attended the session and participated in discussions regarding security and governance challenges. Inspector General of Police Mohammad Tahir briefed participants on the latest law and order developments and shared updates regarding ongoing policing and intelligence-based operations across the province. Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Mohsin Naqvi, and Khawaja Asif were also present during the meeting.

The Apex Committee decided to intensify operations against elements considered hostile to peace and national stability in Balochistan. Participants agreed that no concessions should be given to groups or individuals involved in violence, militancy, or activities aimed at creating unrest in the province. Officials further emphasised that stronger coordination between federal and provincial institutions remained necessary for ensuring sustainable peace and improving public confidence in state institutions.

The meeting concluded with renewed commitments from both civilian and military leadership to continue efforts for peace, development, and stability throughout Balochistan. Participants highlighted that improving security conditions was essential for economic progress, public welfare, and restoring normal life in affected regions. The high-level gathering also reflected the government’s broader strategy of combining security operations with administrative cooperation to tackle long-standing challenges facing the province.
