Four security men martyred, nine terrorists killed in Bajaur shootout

Published on: May 16, 2026 4:08 AM

Security forces killed nine terrorists after repulsing an attack on an army camp in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district. Four security personnel were martyred during the overnight gun battle, according to official sources. The assault highlighted rising militant violence across KP and growing security concerns in border regions.

Official sources said terrorists belonging to Fitna-al-Khawarij attacked the camp late Thursday night using explosives and heavy gunfire. The attackers attempted to enter the facility through one of its gates after detonating explosives nearby. However, security forces responded quickly and prevented the militants from breaching the camp perimeter.

Sources said initial reports confirmed nine terrorists were killed during the intense exchange of fire. Four soldiers also embraced martyrdom while defending the camp against the coordinated assault. The attackers reportedly failed to enter the facility despite sustained firing and repeated attempts to advance.

Meanwhile, security officials launched a search and clearance operation around the camp following the attack. Injured security personnel were shifted to Peshawar for medical treatment after the operation concluded. The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan later claimed responsibility for the assault in an official statement.

Separately, an anti-terrorism officer was martyred in an attack by unidentified gunmen in Landi Kotal on Friday morning, says in media reports.

The attackers targeted Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officer Asim Shinwari outside Zakariya Mosque near his house and fled.

A police team rushed to the site and shifted the dead body to DHQ Hospital in Landi Kotal for post-mortem.

The police personnel cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to trace down the culprits.

They also collected evidence from the crime scene and further investigation was under way.
