Wheelchairs distributed among persons with disabilities

A dignified ceremony for the distribution of modern wheelchairs among persons with disabilities was held at the DC Office Makli under the auspices of the Pakistan Living Disabled Welfare Association, where Sindh Minister for Zakat, Ushr, Auqaf and Religious Affairs Syed Riaz Hussain Shah Shirazi attended as the chief guest. The ceremony was presided over by Tamgha-i-Imtiaz recipient Javed Rais, while social and political leader Haji Muhammad Hanif Memon performed the hosting duties.

On the occasion, 20 special persons were provided with modern American-made wheelchairs. Addressing the ceremony, Minister Syed Riaz Hussain Shah Shirazi said that the Disabled Welfare Association had been rendering remarkable services across the country for the welfare of persons with disabilities and was also providing wheelchairs and other facilities to deserving individuals in Thatta district. He announced that the Sindh government would allocate 200 acres of land in Thatta for the establishment of a modern educational and vocational training institute for special persons to enable them to lead dignified and independent lives.

The minister further said that the Zakat Department had earmarked Rs30,000 assistance for the marriage of girls from underprivileged families, adding that efforts would be made to increase the amount through the Sindh Zakat Council. He said Rs3 million had also been allocated for the treatment of dialysis patients, while a special fund had been set aside for patients deprived of medicines at Civil Hospital Thatta. Speaking on the occasion, Tamgha-i-Imtiaz Javed Rais said the proposed centre in Thatta would provide quality education, modern skills and professional training to special children, enabling them to excel at national and international levels.

Host Haji Muhammad Hanif Memon said Minister Syed Riaz Hussain Shah Shirazi was taking serious measures across Sindh for the welfare of deserving and special persons to ensure the provision of basic facilities to them. Additional Deputy Commissioner-I Thatta Imran -ul – Haq, Chairman Zakat and Ushr Committee Haji Abdul Karim Shoro and others also attended the ceremony.
