Iran releases new Hormuz control map

Published on: May 4, 2026 6:10 PM

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has released a new map showing what it describes as areas under Iranian control in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions in the already volatile waterway. The move comes amid heightened military warnings and rising regional instability linked to maritime security.

According to Iranian state-linked media, the map highlights a line between Iran’s Koh-e Mobarak area in the south and Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates. The depiction appears to assert operational control and monitoring authority over key parts of the strategic sea route.

Earlier, Iranian military authorities had instructed commercial vessels and oil tankers to coordinate their movements through the Strait of Hormuz with Iranian forces. Officials warned that unauthorized navigation could be considered a security threat in the region.

Iranian commanders have repeatedly stated that the Strait of Hormuz is under their control and that foreign naval forces, particularly the United States, should avoid approaching the area. They warned of a strong response to any perceived violation or military intrusion.
