Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met a high-level European Union delegation and representatives of major European companies in Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss strengthening trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Pakistan and the EU.

The meeting took place at the Prime Minister House during the delegation’s visit to Pakistan for the EU-Pakistan Business Forum. The group was led by Peteris Ustubs, Director for Asia Pacific at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships.

The delegation also included Thourya Triki from the European Investment Bank, along with senior executives from prominent European companies such as Adidas, Andritz, and IKEA. European Union Ambassador to Pakistan Raimundas Karoblis was also present.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz welcomed the delegation and thanked members for participating in the business forum, which aims to deepen economic engagement between Pakistan and European partners.
He highlighted the European Union’s importance as Pakistan’s largest trading partner and the leading destination for Pakistani exports. The premier expressed hope that the forum would create new opportunities for trade expansion and attract more foreign investment into the country.
Shehbaz Sharif also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to economic stability and growth despite regional challenges, including rising oil prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.
The prime minister assured the delegation that Pakistan would continue efforts to improve the business climate, facilitate investment, and strengthen commercial relations with European countries.
Members of the EU delegation appreciated Pakistan’s cooperation in hosting the EU-Pakistan Business Forum and acknowledged the government’s support for enhancing business partnerships.
The delegation also praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting de-escalation and peace in the Middle East, according to an official statement.

The meeting comes as Pakistan seeks to attract foreign investment and expand export opportunities amid ongoing economic reforms. Strengthened ties with the European Union remain central to Islamabad’s trade strategy, given the bloc’s significance for Pakistani goods and development partnerships.
