Zardari calls for JVs with China to boost industrial growth

Published on: April 29, 2026 1:55 AM

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari visited SANY Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. in Changsha, China and called for stronger industrial and technology cooperation with China, particularly in engineering and construction machinery.

Tang Xiuguo, Chairman of SANY Group, briefed Zardari on the company’s manufacturing systems, product lines and investment in research and development, Gwadar Pro reported.

The visit focused on industrial cooperation, technology transfer and investment between Pakistan and China in the engineering and construction machinery sector.

Zardari toured the company’s flagship No. 18 Factory, a digitally integrated manufacturing facility known for advanced automation and data-driven production systems.

He was briefed on its intelligent operations, automation rate and role as a benchmark for modern industrial manufacturing.

Zardari said the scale of technological integration was relevant for countries seeking to modernise industrial production and improve efficiency.

He said Pakistan and China had scope to strengthen cooperation in industrial technology, skills development and joint ventures to support Pakistan’s infrastructure and industrial growth.

He also cited potential collaboration in construction machinery, digital manufacturing, clean energy and engineering solutions.

Tang briefed Zardari on the company’s operations in Pakistan and expressed willingness to explore further cooperation in manufacturing, technology exchange and capacity building.

Later, President Asif Ali Zardari, Tuesday, arrived in Sanya, a city in China’s Hainan province, after completing his visit to Hunan province.

Upon his arrival, the president was received by Wang Qiyang, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Hainan. China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong and Pakistan’s Consul General in Guangzhou Sardar Muhammad were also present on the occasion.

“The president’s visit to Sanya reflects the continuity of high-level exchanges between Pakistan and China and underscores efforts to further strengthen bilateral cooperation,” President Secretariat Media Wing said in a press release.

Sanya, a globally recognized tourist destination, plays a key role in the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port and serves as an important hub for economic and commercial activities.

During his visit, President Zardari is expected to hold discussions with the provincial leadership on enhancing economic, trade, and strategic cooperation, as well as advancing progress on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The president will also attend the commissioning ceremony of the Pakistan Navy submarine ‘Hangor’ in Sanya.
