Karachi mayor reopens Landhi Sports Complex after 30 years

Published on: April 26, 2026 10:25 AM

Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has inaugurated the Landhi Sports Complex after 30 years following its renovation, restoring this important public facility for citizens. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, KMC City Council Parliamentary Leader Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, Jaman Durwan, elected representatives, party members, and others.

Addressing the ceremony, the Mayor Karachi said that the people of Landhi and Korangi had been deliberately deprived of basic facilities in the past, but now they have come to bring good news of improvement. He stated that when intentions are sincere, God makes the path easier, and this spirit is helping them succeed in resolving public issues.

He said that the primary responsibility of any municipal government is to address citizens’ problems, but Karachi’s conditions were intentionally deteriorated over the past 30 to 40 years. He added that many tenures came after 1993, yet the issues remained unresolved, whereas the current administration is taking practical steps.

The Mayor Karachi further said that the swimming pool at the sports complex has also been upgraded to modern standards, and membership will be offered at affordable rates so that more citizens can benefit. He informed that in Baldia Town, representatives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari are constructing a new sports complex on 25 acres.

He emphasized that the Pakistan Peoples Party believes in the rule of law and all development work is being carried out accordingly. Rejecting negative propaganda regarding the Hub Canal, he said a request has been submitted to the federal government to increase Karachi’s water share, and urged the public to pay less attention to rumors.

The Mayor Karachi also commented that the position of Governor Sindh has been given to a senior worker of PML-N and that some leaders are fond of media attention. Criticizing past political leadership, he said their performance is evident to all.

He announced that, considering the historical importance of Empress Market, memorials for martyrs will be established there, while the historic globe of Islamia College will be preserved and relocated to Hassan Square. He appealed to the public to provide guidance regarding any historical monuments so the city administration can cooperate.

The Mayor Karachi stated that he is often targeted because he belongs to the PPP and serves as Mayor Karachi. He added that previous leaders also ruled for long periods but failed to resolve the city’s issues.

In conclusion, he said that all political forces must work together for the city’s development. “If they take two steps forward, I will take four,” he said, expressing determination to steer Karachi towards progress despite challenges.
