Kitchen items’ price decline by 0.33%

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) based weekly inflation decreased by 0.33 percent during the week ended on April 23, 2026 for the combined consumption group, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported Friday. According to PBS data.

SPI for the week under review for the combined group fell to 352.04 points as compared to 353.21 points recorded in the previous week.

On year-on-year basis, the SPI increased by 13.98 percent. The weekly SPI with base year 2015-16 = 100 covers 17 urban centres and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.

The SPI for the lowest consumption group (up to Rs 17,732) decreased by 0.41 percent to 331.60 points from 332.97 points.

The SPI for consumption groups of Rs 17,733-22,888; Rs 22,889-29,517; Rs 29,518-44,175; and above Rs 44,175 decreased by 0.36 percent, 0.31 percent, 0.30 percent and 0.34 percent, respectively.

During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 19 items (37.25 percent) increased, 9 items (17.65 percent) decreased, while 23 items (45.10 percent) remained stable.

Major decrease was observed in the prices of tomatoes which declined by 27.65 percent, followed by onions 9.35 percent, diesel 8.35 percent, LPG 7.08 percent, garlic 4.27 percent, bananas 0.47 percent, wheat flour 0.37 percent, sugar 0.36 percent and mustard oil 0.22 percent. On the other hand, prices of potatoes increased by 3.13 percent, bread 0.91 percent, washing soap 0.85 percent, cooking oil (5 litre) 0.69 percent, long cloth 0.65 percent, eggs 0.61 percent, mutton 0.45 percent, chicken 0.44 percent, vegetable ghee (1 kg) 0.30 percent and pulse masoor 0.27 percent.

On year-on-year basis, the SPI for the week under review increased by 13.98 percent compared to the corresponding week of last year. During the period, major increase was recorded in the prices of electricity charges for Q1 by 54.02 percent, LPG 50.68 percent, petrol 44.10 percent, diesel 36.76 percent, wheat flour 36.06 percent, onions 31.89 percent and tomatoes 23.46 percent.

Prices of chilies powder, mutton, beef, powdered milk and garlic also increased. Meanwhile, prices of potatoes declined by 47.38 percent, pulse gram by 19.92 percent, salt powder by 13.22 percent, sugar by 11.74 percent, pulse masoor by 11.47 percent, pulse moong by 1.63 percent, packet tea by 1.14 percent and masoor pulse by 11.47 percent over the same period of last year, PBS reported.
