The Lahore Arts Council, Alhamra, has entered into a significant agreement with the Federal Republic of Germany, represented through its Embassy in Pakistan, marking a major step forward in the preservation and presentation of Pakistan’s artistic heritage.
The agreement focuses on the conservation and enhancement of valuable artworks housed at the Alhamra Art Museum, particularly through the provision of museum-standard framing and protective measures.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to safeguarding cultural assets and elevating their presentation in line with international museum practices.
The project will ensure improved preservation conditions, enhanced visual clarity, and long-term protection of historic paintings, allowing visitors and art enthusiasts to experience these works in their true essence. It is expected to strengthen Alhamra’s position as a leading cultural institution and contribute to the broader promotion of Pakistan’s rich artistic legacy on a global platform.
Executive Director Alhamra Muhammad Nawaz Gondal termed the agreement a milestone achievement for the institution, stating, “This partnership represents a powerful convergence of vision and responsibility. At Alhamra, we are not merely preserving art; we are protecting the soul of our cultural identity. By adopting international conservation and presentation standards, we safeguard and celebrate our artistic heritage with the dignity it deserves. This initiative will significantly enhance the museum experience and inspire future generations to value and connect with their cultural roots.”
On behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany, Deputy Head of Mission, Arno Kirchhof, highlighted the importance of cultural collaboration, stating, “Germany strongly believes in the preservation of cultural heritage as a bridge between nations and generations. This partnership with Alhamra reflects our commitment to supporting initiatives that protect artistic expression and promote cultural dialogue. By contributing to the conservation of these important works, we are investing in a shared global heritage that transcends borders and fosters mutual understanding.”
The agreement shows a forward-looking vision, with international cooperation strengthening cultural institutions, raising professional standards, and engaging audiences. This initiative will open new avenues for collaboration, knowledge exchange and capacity building in arts and heritage management.
The ceremony concluded on a note of optimism and shared purpose. Deputy Director Admin Umair Hassan, Assistant Director Arts Minaa Haroon and Curator Hajra Mehmood were also present on the occasion.
