Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed his chief of staff, Zeev Agmon, following widespread backlash over alleged racist remarks.

According to international media reports, Agmon faced intense criticism from both members of the ruling coalition and opposition parties after his comments sparked controversy across the political spectrum. The remarks were widely condemned as inappropriate and damaging, prompting calls for accountability from lawmakers and public figures.

Israeli media indicated that the pressure mounted quickly, with political leaders warning that such statements risked deepening divisions within an already tense domestic environment. Critics argued that senior officials must uphold higher standards of conduct, particularly in a country marked by complex social and ethnic dynamics.

In response to the growing outcry, Netanyahu moved to remove Agmon from his position, signaling an effort to contain the political fallout and restore confidence within his administration. While no detailed official statement was immediately released outlining the decision, the move was seen as a direct response to the escalating criticism.

The incident has also reignited debate over political rhetoric in Israel, with analysts noting that controversial statements by senior aides can have broader implications for governance and public trust. Opposition figures have urged the government to take stronger measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Agmon’s dismissal highlights the sensitivity surrounding issues of race and identity in Israeli politics, where public discourse is closely scrutinised both domestically and internationally.
