Karachi sees no rain as death toll rises

Published on: April 3, 2026 7:02 PM

Karachi recorded no rainfall on Friday following torrential rain the previous day, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said. The recent downpour has claimed six lives, including one overnight electrocution in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. Rescue officials reported that the fatalities occurred in separate incidents amid heavy rainfall.

On Thursday, the city administration declared an emergency as four people died from electrocution and another from a wall collapse. Vehicles were stranded on flooded roads across the metropolis, disrupting daily life. The torrential rain affected multiple areas, with Nazimabad receiving 97.4 mm, Surjani Town 67 mm, and Keamari 66 mm.

Other localities, including Bahria Town, Orangi Town, and PAF Faisal Base, also recorded rainfall exceeding 50 mm. The PMD attributed the rain to a strong westerly system moving from Balochistan. Authorities had issued a rain emergency in anticipation of heavy rainfall from April 2 to April 4.

Friday’s weather is expected to be partly cloudy and pleasant, with minimum and maximum temperatures of 16°C and 27–29°C, respectively. Humidity levels are around 76 percent, with easterly winds blowing across the city.

Officials continue to monitor conditions to prevent further incidents as the city recovers from Thursday’s flooding. Residents are advised to exercise caution on roads and avoid low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.
