KARACHI – A fire erupted early Monday in the basement of the Imtiaz Superstore in the Zamzama area of Karachi, officials said. The upscale locality is home to many high-end shops and sees thousands of visitors daily.

A spokesperson for Rescue 1122 said the central command and control room immediately dispatched fire and rescue teams, fire brigade trucks, and ambulances after receiving the alert. “Rescue 1122 is working to control the fire,” the spokesperson added. No casualties have been reported so far.

The firefighting teams have entered the store’s premises and are actively working to extinguish the blaze. The cause and nature of the fire remain under investigation. The director-general of Rescue 1122 also dispatched a specialised response team to assist at the scene.

Karachi Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory, noting that fire brigade vehicles are on site and advising the public to drive safely. “No traffic issues have been reported, but people are urged to exercise caution,” the advisory said. Residents can contact the Karachi Traffic Police helpline at 1915 for assistance.

This incident follows another fire on Sunday, when a container-mounted trailer parked in the Federal B Area caught fire. According to Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan, the blaze erupted in the front portion of the trailer, causing significant damage before firefighters successfully extinguished it.

Authorities are urging vigilance and caution in commercial areas, especially given the increased foot traffic and high density of stores in locations like Zamzama. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the superstore fire.
